We received two shipments of diapers this week. 11 of them we had to send back to the manufacture, because they had some faulty stitching, wider in the crotch, not as soft fabrics, and were made a lot different than the ones we trialed (made in Turkey); where as the ones we really like were made in China (go figure). Thankfully, the Fuzzibunz company has awesome customer service and agreed to replace them all for the ones we like better :)
Today is our second day using cloth diapers full time and things are going great. A few leaks here and there, but I believe it is due to needing to adjustment the elastic straps or snap settings. Once we made a few adjustments there has been no leaks. My younger daughter is a heavy wetter; so we have to use 3 inserts (two microterry and one hemp) overnight to keep her from having leaks. All and all, I continue to love them and they fit under all our cloths fine. I suspect on younger children, however, they would be more bulky. More to come on this when our newborn boy arrives in a little over a month.
This afternoon we embarked on our first dirty diaper. It was bound to happen sooner or later. I must say it was a new adventure, for sure! It was a very very dirty diaper and pasty (sorry to be graphic). The diaper held up great; no leaks and just as easy to change her cloth diaper as we would a disposable. I was very relieved to have such a smooth experience.
...then came the diaper sprayer!
We decided to go with the diaper sprayer after so many blogs stated it was a must have with cloth diapers and a friend has one she loves. I tried it out a few times just spraying in the toilet for fun when we first got it installed last week, but nothing could have prepared me for what happened during actual use today. Oh my! Proceeded to dump the dirty (which didn't work too well, cuz it was pasty), and turned on my sprayer. As I started spraying dirty water and bits flew everywhere. I immediately stopped, and proceeded for another try. Which was much more successful. Sometimes these things take practice I guess. I should note, that we currently have a potty seat installed on the toilet which makes it impossible to lift the adult seat to a stay position. So I was doing this with the adult seat down. I'm confident it would have gone much better if this was not the case. Once I got the hang of it, things worked out great. Was able to rinse the diaper clean and to my surprise there was none left over. The fleece lining rinses clean, with only a tad shade of brown that is barely noticable left. I was able to rinse this in the sink and the diaper was all white when done.
I continue to be amazed with these diapers and having a great experience so far. There are a few things I am finding we will really need to get to make things smoother:
-2 diaper pails (one for each level of our home)
-new potty seat for bathroom with sprayer so adult seat can be lifted to stay
-diaper sprayer for down stairs (not a must, but would be nice). That is of course, if I can get the hand of it :)
